Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy-An Unsafe Choice

By: Gary Ambrosh

I have used up hours and hours on the Internet, endeavouring to locate a cure for my blushing bouts. There are a lot of self-styled 'solutions' and each and every time I locate a new one, I become excited and wonder whether this could be the cure to my blushing bouts.

Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy, or ETS, seemed very heartening. It appeared to tackle the blushing problem with no need for pills, creams, cognitive behaviour therapy or hypnosis. I wondered if this could be the answer to my hopes and wondered what it would be like to live normally, not bothering about my blushing every day.

According to medical websites, there is a significant chance of being successful as a consequence of the fact that ETS surgery doesn't have too many uncertainties. If I had sufficient means for ETS surgery, I'd have jumped at it without delay. But, as a consequence of the fact that I did not have sufficient means, I thought about getting financial assistance. However, prior to applying for the loan, I made up my mind to do a little more examination on ETS surgery and learn whatever I could about the process. I located a lot of pages on ETS surgery, but the most beneficial one I located was http://www.truthaboutets.com/Pages/duckpond.html. This site puts in plain words the complete ETS surgery procedure in great detail, and I was fascinated with what I found there.

I was shocked to discover that ETS surgery has a lot of consequences. After the surgery, you could find yourself with decreased thermoregulation, compensatory hyperhidrosis, decreased lung capacity, decreased exercise capability, very dry hands and denervation super sensitivity! I now saw things in a different way. This now looked far worse than the actual blushing bouts that I was undergoing. I desperately had a desire to put an end to my blushing bouts once and for all, but I started to fret over these harmful consequences. The uncertainties of ETS surgery looked far worse than the pluses.

After reading about the consequences, I now know that in no situation would I ever think about ETS surgery. And that too, ETS surgery is not at all crucial. You can beat your blushing bouts without resorting to anything as harmful as ETS surgery. The ETS surgery procedure entails joining or clipping your nerves and this may cause severe nerve damage. I know, life can be hellish when you are have excessive blushing, but there are a lot of other techniques to cure yourself than to go through ETS surgery. There are a lot of different things you can attempt before you resort to ETS surgery, if you are yet considering it at all.

I really sympathise with people who might still be assessing something as harmful as ETS surgery. I can very well imagine how terrible your life must be. Are you aware that ETS surgery was in reality forbidden in Sweden, where it was started, as a consequence of many objections from patients who were injured by the side effects of the surgery? In 2004, Taiwan forbidden surgeons from performing ETS surgery on anyone under twenty years of age. In 2006, The Finnish Office for Health Technology Assessment carried out a review and learned that if you have an ETS surgery, the possibility of suffering from a side effect were overly high.

Nearly all of the surgeons' sites describe it very differently and do not inform about the uncertainties involved, because they benefit from the ETS operations. On the other hand, government sites are more open about the uncertainties and consequences. Excessive blushing can be defeated by natural means and it does not seem sensible to spend a great sum of money on something that can not only impair you, but might not even work in all cases. According to me, it is simply not worth the trouble.
