The Need Of Quality Airplane Equipment In Correlation With Safety

By: Chris Channing..

There is a widespread public fear that airplanes are dangerous. In many senses, the fear might be well founded. But as statistics show, actual fatalities regarding airplanes are quite low. Even still, it is important for hobbyist pilots and mechanics to educate themselves on proper airplane safety and the importance of proper airplane equipment.

The Federal Aviation Administration

The FAA, or Federal Aviation Administration, was established to help protect the aviation industry and any consumers associated with it. However, the department does not include much quality control on imported airplane parts.

Shopping for airline parts in foreign countries isn't always a good idea, but it does indeed help keep costs down for airliners. This gives more slack to consumers, who don't always like the idea of an expensive plane ticket. Often, however, the cheap way out can hinder quality.

The cheap parts act won't get airliners far if the quality isn't up to par. The FAA has reported that several recent failures were a direct result of substandard airplane parts. This has sent a shockwave through the department, who is now hoping to find a solution that benefits both consumers and airliners.

To come up with a solution, the FAA reevaluated their efforts in finding the best quality for the best price. In the end, the department agreed to make more on-site inspections of foreign manufacturers, and to also include inspection standards as the parts make their way into US territory.

Airplane Safety for Consumers

Airplane equipment safety for consumers isn't a subject that provides much options. Consumers can't choose airliners based on where they buy their airplane equipment. Pilots can, however, choose to buy their own equipment from manufacturers that have a good reputation. In that way, the quality of service is guaranteed.

First, the myth that one spot on a plane is safer that another is false. Different factors can account for different fatalities. Fires and smoke, for instance, may affect one section of the plane while leaving other sections untouched. How the airplane faults and how it lands on the ground is another large factor in the equation.

It is important to note that airline customers should follow the directions made available to them in the event of airplane equipment failure. These directions are made based on the best possible hope for survival, so be sure to educate yourself before taking part in airplane travel.

Of the many safety devices, the oxygen masks are quite important- as they help reduce the risk of losing consciousness. Other floating devices can ensure that one can survive even if a plane fails over a body of water. Some personal planes even include parachutes, just in case jumping out of the plane at the last second is the only option.

In the end, it all comes down to quality parts. If you are a hobbyist, you can do your part by ensuring you buy parts from a quality manufacturer. Sadly, you won't have the luxury with choosing an airline, in which case you'll have to hope for the best.
